CNR 2014: Lectures: LEGO® Group (DNK): Matthias Paul Scholz (GER) & Aswin Bouwmeester (NDL): LEGO MINDSTORMS and sound

Blu3s is a guitar playing robot with a lego Mindstorms heart and with Java brains. It is a versatile musician and can play along with any Song that is in Midi format. Actually Blu3s does not make music, it merely playbacks with music that is generated by a computer. The computer runs a special program, the BoR system. This program sequences a midi file and distributes the sequence to a synthesizer, that generates the music, and to a number of musicians that playback with the music. Blu3s has always been a solo artist. But for Cafe Neu Romance Blu3s will team up with a few other talented musicians, K3ys and drumm3r, to form a new band, The S3nsorh3ads. Don't miss their show!

LEGO MINDSTORMS & Sound
* In-built sound capabilities of EV3
* Improving sound with external gadgets (Smartphone, PC)
* Samples of MINDSTORMS robots with sound built by the community
* The EV3 rock band: using Java for making music with robots
* Discussion with audience: ideas and visions for MINDSTORMS & sound

Aswin Bouwmeester has created Blu3s, which is a guitar playing robot, who will team up with a few other talented musicians, K3ys and drumm3r, to form a new band, The S3nsorh3ads. Don't miss their show!

Matthias Paul Scholz (GER) is a long-time member of various LEGO MINDSTORMS community programs of LEGO, author of a number of successful books and DVDs on MINDSTORMS and an official "LEGO Robot Expert".

He is editor of "The NXT STEP", one of the most popular MINDSTORMS blogs world-wide, and of the German-speaking MINDSTORMS blog "Die NXTe Ebene".

Having been active in the MINDSTORMS community since its early days in 1998 as a robot builder, software tool developer and lecturer, he has shown his creations at LEGO events all over the world.

His main interest in MINDSTORMS is related to small robots cooperating with each other and interacting with their environment, thus exploring the possibilities MINDSTORMS offers everyone to conduct robotics.

Lately, he is started to engage into robotics as an art.

Aswin Bouwmeester (NDL) has been building with MINDSTORMS since 2009. He specializes in holonomic robots and designs control systems to make them move gracefully. He's interested in sensors and ways to process and enhance the signals they deliver. Aswin is also a member of the leJOS development team that brings Java to the MINDSTORMS platform. His latest project combines robots and music.
