CNR 2014: Exhibition: Jak Gibberish (GBR): Biotropolis

"Suddenly, from the shadowy depths of Rapture's seedy under belly a Big Daddy emerges, stepping forth from a dark and dusty hallway. With every heavy echoing foot step the ground beneath him cracks and shakes leaving behind a trail of rubble. After a minute or two he stops at a small opening in the wall. Reaching down a small figure crawls out. It is a Little Sister venturing out of the her hiding spot she called sanctuary for the past few hours to yet again carry out her horrible task; to collect more precious Adam! As they slowly disappear walking off amongst the crowd of crazed freaks known only as Splicers the cold stone walls and twisted metal pipes surrounding them creak and groan. This is the dying aftermath of what once was known as the impossible, the city where the great would not be constrained by the small! This was once known as the wonderful city of Rapture! All that is left now is the fading beauty of the fallen...

Ever since I first played Bioshock the videogame I've been in love with everything about it. From the amazing story and atmosphere right down to the visuals and music itself I've been inspired. This has leaded me to more of an interest into the beautiful movement that is Art Deco and the elegance of its design. I always wanted to try my hand at an Art Deco poster with the idea of fusing both my love of Bioshock with one of the very best films and film posters of all time, Metropolis. The two references seemed perfect for each other I just had to try. Luck would have it that at the same time a wonderful daily t-shirt/poster printing company known as Ript Apparel (www.riptapparel.com ) set up a great poster sale idea. This idea was to collaborate with many artists from all over to print and sell movie parody posters. This was my chance I thought, my excuse to create something wild. So I went ahead and illustrated to me the best tribute I could to two amazing pieces of art; Metropolis and Bioshock! After seeing its success as a poster and how so many were calling out for it to be made into a t-shirt design I took that one step further. With thanks to Ript Apparel I was able to see it all through from start to finish.

So, you might have guessed it by now. I am a freelance illustrator specializing at the moment in t-shirt and poster design! I have been doing this for a number of years now on and off involving myself in a good few projects ranging from band posters to crazy parody tee designs. I love being creative and I am normally known for being that weird guy who sits in the corner all day drawing up yet more cartoons! I graduated with a BA Hon in Animation but soon steered more into illustration for many reasons but I have worked on a few shorts including one named, Night Island with a few great Disney animators."
