The notion Robot was coined by Cubist painter Josef Capek In 1920

R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) by Czech Author Karel Capek had is world premiere at the National Theatre in Prague in 1921. It is from that play, "robot" has got its origin.

After a decade (1910-20) in which the Astronomical Clock of Prague celebrated its 500 anniversary in 1910, the story of Prague's Golem was brought back to life by Author Gustav Meyrink (1914) in his book Golem and in German expressionist movies about the great terminator robot (1915-20), plus worker uprising and revolution in Russia (1917), and the introduction of assembly line work at Ford's factories in the U.S., then it was time for that R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) by Karel Capek could get its world premiere at the National Theatre in Prague in 1921.

The Trailer to the forthcoming short documentary on Karel Capek and R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) by Vive Les Robots! was presented during the first edition of Cafe Neu Romance at the National Technical Library in Prague.

Although the plot seems simple - man invents android robots to do hard monotonous work, for later on almost being wiped out by the robots, it was a science fiction theater piece far ahead of its time, and contains many interesting human - technology discussions and perspectives.

Another great Czech writer who lived at the same time as Karel Capek was Franz Kafka. In his novella The Metamorphosis (1915) the protagonist Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning and find himself transformed into a monstrous insect-like creature.

How this artificial creature that Gregor now has turned into will interact with his family members, it's the story about.
